"[All beings of the] world rejoice when the Sun, praised by many, rises shedding its rays over the eastern ocean and traverses [in clockwise direction] around the MahAmEru mountain [centre of the Universe]; likewise shines forth Lord Murugan's splendour of light, that is seen not only by the external eyes of the Lord's devotees from far, but also perceived by the inner vision of devotees with their eyelids closed.

The Lord's sacred feet are charming and sturdy, and they are supportive of all devotees [by removing the results of their past deeds and ignorance]. The Lord's thunderbolt-like arms annihilate the foes. Lord Murugan is the divine consort of the heavenly maiden TheivayAnai, who is endowed with bright forehead and faultless chastity ..."

"The clouds, bearing the rain, scooped from the sea, scatter their showers in the sky, which is lit up by the sun and the moon, and in the forest of fragrant kadambu-trees with stout trunks and abundant leaves. Lord Murugan's sacred chest is adorned with chariot-wheel-like-garlands, strung with the circular-red-blossoms of the kadambu-tree ..."

"On the sky-high-mountain with large bamboo-trees, the fair little feet of the young-nymph-like-damsels ['சூர் அர மகளிர்] are adorned with tinkling bells; their legs are globular, their hips are slender and curvaceous, and their smooth shoulders resemble bamboo-stem; they are wearing scarlet-coloured-skirts of fine un-dyed cloth, adorned with red-flower-like-designs; their hips are adorned with seven-stringed-ornamental-belt of mEgalai of golden-beads; they are endowed with natural beauty; they are wearing bright ornaments, made of the finest kind of gold [known as cambu-natham, or nAval]; the faultlessly bright lustre of their complexion can be seen even from a far distance ..."

"Their smooth tresses, praised by their playmates, are adorned with small vetchi-blossoms, combined with the petals of the water-lily-of-green-stalk; they are wearing the jewel of theiva-uththi [தெய்வ உத்தி or சீதேவி] over their hair together with other ornaments in the form of conch-shell turning to the right; their fair and fragrant foreheads of are adorned with the ornamental mark of thilagam and the magara-like ornament; their flawless hair is adorned with campaka-blossoms, laced over with clusters of marudham-flowers ..."

"The knot of their hair is adorned with fillets of pretty little red buds of plants growing under water; the shining sprouts of asOka-tree, stuck behind their pretty ears, are dangling over their gold-capped- breasts; their young 'kOngku'-bud-shaped- breasts are smeared with the fragrant sandalwood-paste, to appear as if they are smeared with pollen-grains of fragrant marudham-blossoms; the sandal- wood-paste is laced with fine pollen- grains of full-blown-vEngkai-flowers; the girls pick the sprouts of the viLA-tree and throw them charmingly at each other's breasts; they praise [Lord Murugan's] flag of rooster and wish it all success in annihilating the foes; they are singing and dancing so boisterously in the grove that the hill-slopes resound with loud echoes ..."

"Lord Murugan's sacred head is adorned with a large cool chaplet of fiery-red-kandha-blossoms (Gloriosa superba) which are un-swarmed by bees because they bloom at such great height of the wooded hills that even the monkeys do not know how to climb the gigantic trees. Lord Murugan's long-and-fiery-lance-with-a-leaf- shaped-head plunged into the ancient cold-and- rock-bound-sea, ruffling it up and killed the demon [SUrapanman] ..."

"The fearsome devil-woman of dry hair and uneven teeth of large wide-open mouth, greenish eyes rolling with rage and cruel look and rough and uncouth belly, struts about frighteningly; her huge cave-like-ears, wherein live owls with bulging eyes and fierce snakes, which creep over her breasts, causing them pain; her thick-set- bangled-arms holding a black skull of foul smell with sockets empty of eye-balls scooped out by the sharp nails of blood-stained fingers, and with her shoulders heaving and mouth dripping with blood, she performs the thuNangkai-dance and sings the songs of victory over enemies in fair battles, striking great terror into the demonic hearts ..."

"The Lord of unfathomable fame wielding the fiery-red-lance, assumed six different forms and inspired fear among the demons; and when their chief [SUrapanman] took the form of a huge human-body with the face of a horse and later assumed the form of an [upside-down] mango-tree, bearing bunches of blossoms downwards, the Lord annihilated the demon by slashing down the illusory tree ..."

"If you have the wholehearted intention of attaining mukthi at the sacred scarlet feet of Lord Murugan, by carrying out good deeds for the benefit of all other beings and wish to proceed from one sacred abode to the other [where Lord Murugan abides], you may attain the Lord's grace right now as you wish: There is the city of KUdal [Mathurai], where the victorious banner is hung aloft together with [unassailable] balls and dolls. No war is ever waged at the city's gates! There is a faultless avenue of shops, where the Goddess of Wealth reigns supreme, and there are also many other avenues with multi storied mansions. West of the city stands the sacred hill [Thirupparangkundram], surrounded by dark- muddy-and-fertile-[paddy]-fields, where swarms of bright-winged bees hum over the lotus-blossoms blooming on thorny stalks, and they sleep on them at night and wake up at dawn when the sun rises, and buzz around the neythal-blossoms brimming with honey and over the adorable eye-like-buds blooming in the reservoir of the hill. Lord Murugan abides in blissful peace on the sacred hill [Thirupparangkundram], not only that ..."
