தலைமை அர்ச்சகர் ஸ்ரீ கே.எஸ். கணபதி கூறியது )

சுமார் 120 வருடங்களுக்குமுன் கோலாலம்பூரிலிருந்து குவாந்தான் நகருக்கு சாலை போடும் வேலை நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தது. ஒரு பெரிய மரத்தை வெட்டும்போது அதிலிருந்து இரத்தம் கசிந்தது.

அதே வேளையில் மரம்வெட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்த தமிழர் ஒருவருக்கு அருள் வந்து, அவர் அந்த மரத்தை வெட்டக்கூடாதென்றும் சாலையைச் சிறிது தூரத்திற்கு அப்பால் போடவேண்டுமென்றும் சொன்னார். அதைச் செய்ய மறுத்தார் ஆங்கிலேய மேற்பார்வையாளர். உடனே சிறிய குழந்தை வடிவுகொண்ட தழும்பு அந்த மரத்தில் தோன்றியது. அதைப்பார்த்து வியந்த மேற்பார்வையாளர் மரத்தை வெட்டாமல் சாலையை சிறிது தூரத்திற்கு அப்பால் போட உத்தரவிட்டார்.

அன்றிலிருந்து அந்த இடம் ஒரு புனித இடமாகியது. ஸ்ரீ மரத்தாண்டவ பால தண்டாயுதபாணி என்ற பெயர் அமைந்தது. இங்கு தூய பக்தியோடு வருபவர்களுக்கு எல்லா நன்மைகளும் வந்து சேர்கின்றன. ஊனமுற்றோர் நடப்பது, ஊமைகள் பேசுவது, நோயுற்றோர் குணமாவது போன்ற அற்புதங்கள் பல இங்கு நிகழ்ந்து வருகின்றன.

"நான் இந்தக் கோயிலுக்கு 1955ம் ஆண்டில், என் முப்பதாவது வயதில் வந்தேன். மாதச் சம்பளம் அப்போது 20 ரிங்கிட்தான். அந்தக்காலத்தில் இந்தக்கோயில் வெறும் தகரத்தாலும் மரப்பலகையாலும் அமைந்திருந்தது. அப்போதெல்லாம் இங்கு அடிக்கடி நிகழும் அற்புதம் என்னவென்றால், இந்தச் சாலையில் செல்லும் வாகனம் ஏதும் நிற்காமல் சென்றால் சிறிது தூரம் சென்றவுடன் ஓடமுடியாமல் நின்றுவிடும். கோயிலிலிருந்து விபூதியை தேய்த்தபின்தான் மீண்டும் ஓடும். பங்குனி உத்திரம்தான் இந்தக் கோயிலின் மிகச் சிறப்பான நாள். பல பக்தர்களின் வேண்டுதல்கள் நிறைவேறுகின்றன. அந்தக்காலத்தில் சுமார் 500 அர்ச்சனைகள் நடைபெறும். இப்போது 300,000 மேல் அர்ச்சனைகள் நடைபெறுகின்றன."

ஏன் இத்தனைக் காலமாக இங்கேயே இருக்கிறீர்கள் என்று கேட்டபோது அவர் சொன்னார்,

1962ல் நான் ஒரு கனவு கண்டேன். அதில் சுமார் 200 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்னர் இங்கே வசித்த ஒரு முருகபக்த மகான், இந்தக் கோயிலுக்குப் பக்கத்தில் இருக்கும் ஓடையில் குளித்துவிட்டு, இந்த மரத்தினுள் ஐக்கியமானதைக் கண்டேன். அதே மகான் கனவில் என்முன் தோன்றி இங்கேயே என்னைச் சேவை செய்யச் சொன்னார். அதன்படிதான் நான் முழுமனதோடு இங்கே சேவை செய்துவருகிறேன்."

History of the Temple

(narrated by Senior Priest Sri K.S. Ganapathy Archagar in 2001 to the webmaster of Kaumaram.com)

About 120 years ago, construction of the road from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan was in progress here. When a large tree was being chopped, it started to bleed. One of the Tamil workers went into a trance at the same time. He said that the tree should be spared and the road laid a short distance away. The British supervisor refused. To everybody's astonishment a figure of a child appeared on the trunk of the tree. The supervisor was surprised and changed his mind. The road was laid away from the tree. The place became sacred, and it took the name of Sri MarathANdava BAla DhandAyuthapANi (Lord Murugan). Several true devotees have experienced miracles here. They are bestowed with good fortunes in their lives. The lame had walked, the dumb has spoken and the chronic sick - healed. These miracles are still occurring!

I came here in 1955, at the age of 30. My salary was then 20 Ringgit. This temple was made up of zinc sheets and wooden planks. The usual miracle that occurred here then was, if any vehicle passes by this temple without stopping, it will stall a short distance later and will not restart until the VibUthi (Holy Ash) from the temple is applied on it!

Panguni Uthiram (March/April) is the grand festival here. In those days there used to be around 500 'archanai's. Now the number exceeds 300,000!

In 1962, I had a dream. In it I saw a Yogi (devoted to Lord Murugan), who lived here about 200 years ago. He was walking towards the tree after having his bath in the nearby stream. He vanished into the tree! Appearing again in my dream, he instructed me to serve this temple. Since then I decided to serve this temple for as long as I could.
