amarum amarinil adhikan ayanum ari: IndrA, the Chief of the Celestials, BrahmA, Vishnu
avarum veruva varum athikALam: and others were scared when the deadly poison came (out of the milky ocean).
adhanai athakaraNa vidhana: (To escape the poison, they prayed) - "Oh Destroyer of our mental agony,
paripuraNa amaiya navar karaNa akilEsa: You reside in the serene hearts of people who possess complete tranquility, Oh Lord of this Universe;
nimira aruL charaNa: To help us to rise on our feet, You must grant us Your holy feet; and
nipidam adhena: the poison is closing in on us" (- so all DEvAs prayed to Lord SivA).
una nimira samira maya: When their pleas reached Him, with the speed of whirlwind,
niyamAya: and vowing to protect those who surrendered,
nimida madhanil: in just a moment,
uNavala siva: SivA swallowed that poison!
suthavara: You are that SivA's great son!
ninadhu padhavithara varu vAyE: You must come to take us into Your fold in Your Great Kingdom!
samara samara sura asura vidhara para: At the asuras who were enemies of the pious DEvAs
saradha viratha ayil viduvOnE: You threw the powerful Spear which is a symbol of truth!
