vER oru sAkshi aRappasi ARiyai: I am a loner eating without offering to anyone ("selfish miser");

neeR idu sAsthra vazhikku athi dhUranai: I am far away from the ritual of wearing SivA's holy ash ("anti-saivite");

vErvizha thavamUzhgum thARparya matruzhal pAviyai: I am a sinner, roaming around denying myself the benefit of any deep-rooted meditation which sustains life like the root sustaining the tree ("atheist");

nAvalar pORpari vutru: I pose like an eloquent person,

unayE karu dhAdhigal sAtru thamizhkkurai nyALiyai: and, without thinking about You, argue with others barking abusive language ("dog");

nALvarai thadumARi pOkkidam atra vridhAvanai: Until today, I have faltered wastefully, without knowing where my solace can be found ("scum");

nyAnigaL pOtrudhal atra dhurOgiyai: I am a treacherous person without any respect for the enlightened people ("traitor");

mA maruL pUththa malathraya pUriyai: Due to acute ignorance, I am possessed by the three evil characteristics (haughtiness, karmA and illusion);

nEriya pulaiyEnai: and I am baser than the basest.

(All these self-deprecating attributes, namely coward, selfish miser, anti-saivite, atheist, dog, scum, traitor, etc., are heaped by AruNagirinAthar upon himself).

pOr sudar vajra vai vEl mayilA: You have the golden spear, sharp and sparkling like a diamond, and the peacock!

vibeeshaNar sOdhari muzhumOdi: although she was the sister of good VibheeshanA, she was a consummate temptress;

mUththa arakkani rAvaNa nOdu: and that SUrpanakai went to her elder brother and Rakshasa King, RAvaNA,

iyalpEtrividak kamalAlaya seethaiyai: and described Sita's beauty in such a tempting way that Sita, who is none other than Lakshmi in the temple of lotus,

mOttan vaLaiththu: was kidnapped in a cunning manner by that Rakshasa;
