......... Meaning .........

kuvaLaik kaNai thotta avanukku mudik kudai itta kuRaip piRaiyAlE: He shoots the blue lily* as His (fifth) arrow; upon that Manmathan's head, the blemished moon sits like an umbrella; because of (the heat generated by) that moon,

kuRuku utRa alarth therivaikku mozhik kuyilukkum inith thaLarAthE: because of the scandal-mongering women closing in on her and because of the cooing of the cuckoo with a sweet voice, she should not be suffering any more;

ivaLaith thuvaLak kalavikku nayaththu iRukath thazhuvip puyam meethE iNai atRa azhakil punaiyak karuNaikku inimaith thodaiyaith thara vENum: She is (in love with You) with a desire to experience the pleasure of crushing union with You; kindly hug her and graciously give the nice (kadappa) garland that adorns Your shoulders for her to wear with matchless beauty!

kavaLak karadak kari ettu alaRak kanakak kiriyaip porum vElA: The eight great elephants (protecting the cardinal directions) that guzzle large chunks of food and that have on their jaws the scar of overflowing fluid of frenzy were terrified and began to scream when You fought with Your spear against the golden mount Krouncha, Oh Lord!

karuthic cheyalaip puyanukku urukik kalavikku aNaya aththu ezhu mArpA: Manmathan shot an arrow of ashoka* flower from his shoulder intentionally making Your chest rise in eager anticipation of (VaLLi's) embrace.

pavaLath tharaLath thiraLak kuvai veRpu avai oppu vayal puRam meethE: On the mountain-like heaps of corals and pearls scattered on the sides of the paddy fields,

paNilath thiraL moyththa ThiruththaNigaip pathiyil kumarap perumALE.: clusters of conch-shells accumulate in this place, ThiruththaNigai, which is Your abode, Oh KumarA, the Great One!

* The five flowery arrows of Manmathan are: lotus, mango, ashokam, jasmine and blue lily; ashokam is also known as ceyalai.

This song has been written in the Nayaka-Nayaki BhAva, where the poet has assumed the role of the heroine's God-mother portraying the pangs of separation of her daughter from Lord Murugan.
The Love God, the flowery arrows, the moon, the scandal-mongering women and the cooing of the cuckoo are some of the sources which aggravate the agony of separation from the Lord.
