First let us get the right meaning of 'faith'. It is a belief on something that cannot be described by conventional language. Only the person involved can 'feel' this special condition if and when he/she has complete trust in that. Our religion gives us the 'freedom' to worship the 'ALMIGHTY' (God), in whatever form or name we feel comfortable with. There is no such thing as 'this is the ONLY way' ... etc.

The reason you want to have Lord Murugan's image in your prayer room, should be that HE is your 'ISHTA' dheivam - meaning 'most desired' and that 'God' form is which you are most comfortable with.

In our 'PurAnA's' there are various 'forms' that GOD takes to accomplish various tasks. Likewise in Kandha PurAnA - The PurAnA of Lord Murugan, He takes several forms to convey the messages (of Dharma) to mankind. We must clearly understand this fact. The messages are very very important in our 'faith' - not the rituals. However not many spiritual leaders (ours) convey this utmost truth. Most 'swamis' and 'gurus' and other (so called) 'heads' and even some priests and others in spiritual service, are interested in only enriching themselves (to benefit) from our ignorance of this FACT.

You have the total freedom to worship whatever 'form' of Lord Murugan you wish. There are several forms - Pazhani Aandavar, Aarumugaswamy, Subramanyar, Kalyana Subramanyar (with Valli and Deivanai), Bala Murugan to name a few.

There will be people (in our view - destructors of faith) to say several negative things about each and every form - not only on Lord Murugan but also on other deities. These people are spiritually immature and don't know the real meaning of Hinduism. You need not be intimidated by them. Should anyone say something negative, you should stand up firm and say 'that is Murugan, that's all I am interested in'. With this thought you can fortify your devotion. Live with complete faith - NOT with fear.
