புதிய கோவில் எழுந்த விதம்

இறைவன் பால தண்டாயுதபாணிக்குப் புதிய கோவில் அமைக்க வேண்டுமென்ற எண்ணம் எல்லா பக்தர்களின் மனத்திலும், இக்கோவிலோடு தொடர்புடைய பலர் மனத்திலும் வெகுகாலமாக சுடர் விட்டு எரிந்துக் கொண்டிருந்தது. எனினும் இம்மாபெரும் பணியை எப்பொழுது தொடங்குவது என்று தெரியாமல் இருந்தது. கோவிலின் புதிய நிர்வாக சபை திரு. ரெ. தங்கரத்தினம் தலைமையில் ₁₉₉₈-ல் கோயிலின் பணியை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டதும் புதிய கோவில் கட்டும் எண்ணம் உருப்பெறத் தொடங்கியது. இச்சமயத்தில் தான் பொது மராமத்து இலாக்காவைச் சேர்ந்த அதிகாரிகள் கோவிலின் கூரை இற்று விழும் நிலையில் உள்ளது என்றும் அப்பழைய கோவில் கட்டடம் ஆபத்தான நிலையில் உள்ளது என்று எச்சரித்ததும், புதிய கோவில் கட்ட வேண்டியது அவசியமாயிற்று. கவலைக்கிடமான இந்நிலை இவ்வாறிருக்க குறைகாண்பதே குறியாகக் கொண்ட பலர், புதிய கோவில் இன்னும் பத்து ஆண்டுகள் ஆனாலும் கட்டப்படாது என்று ஆருடம் கூறினர். இந்நிலையிலேதான் புதிய கோவில் நிர்வாகம் பக்தர்கள், இவ்வட்டார இந்துக்கள் ஆகியோர் நலன் கருதி புதிய கோவில் கட்டுவது என முடிவெடுத்தது.

_30-05-1999-ல் நடைபெற்ற சிறப்புப் பொதுக்கூட்டத்தில் புதிய கோவில் கட்டும் அனுமதியைத் தேவஸ்தான சபா வழங்கியது. புதுக் கோவில் கட்டவேண்டுமென்று அனைவரும் விரும்பினார்கள். தேவஸ்தான சபாவின் அனுமதியைப் பெற்ற நிர்வாக சபை _20-06-1999-ல் புதுக் கோவில் கட்டுமானத்திற்கான முதல் கூட்டத்தை நடத்தியது. இக் கூட்டத்தில் புதிய கோவில் கட்டுவதற்கான அடிப்படைகள், பல வகைகளிலும் உதவக்கூடிய எல்லோரையும் சேர்த்துக் கோள்வது போன்ற கொள்கைகள் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளப்பட்டன.

_29-09-1999-ல், கோவில் கட்டும் நீண்ட பயணத்தின் முதல் கட்டமாக பாலாலயம் அமைப்பதற்கான இடம் அடையாளங் காணப்பட்டு _17-10-1999-ல் அவ்வாலயம் கட்டத் தொடங்கப்பட்டது. _18-11-1999-ல் பாலஸ்தாபனம் செய்யப்பட்டது. தொடர்ந்து ஒரு மாதத்தில் பொது மராமத்து இலாகாவின் முன்னால் பொறியியலாளர் திரு. தோமஸ் தம்பு அவர்கள் கோவில் கட்டுமானப் பணிக்கு ஆலோசகராக நியமிக்கப் பட்டார் அடுத்து தமிழ்நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த மாஸ்டர் ஸ்கல்ப்டர்ஸ், மாமல்லபுர ஆர்க்கிடெக்கின் திரு. _G. வன்மீகாநாதன் என்பவரோடு தேவஸ்தான சபா ஜனவரி மாதம் ₂₀₀₀-த்தில் உடன்படிக்கை ஒன்றில் கையெழுத்திட்டது. இந்த ஒப்பந்தம் ஒரு சிறந்த ஒப்பந்தமாகும்.

மே மாதம் ₂₀₀₀-த்தில் சிரம்பான் நகரின் பழைய கட்டடங்களின் ஒன்றான (₁₈₉₅-ல் கட்டப்பட்ட) பழைய கோவில் இடிக்கப்பட்டு புதுக் கோவிலுக்கு இடம் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டது. இடையில் புதிய கோவிலுக்கான வரைப்படம் வரையப்பட்டு சிரம்பான் நகராண்மைக் கழகம் மற்றும் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட நிறுவனங்களிடம் சமர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்டது. புதிய கட்டட நகல் சில மாற்றங்களுக்கான உத்தரவாதங்களுடன் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளப்பட்டது. பிறகு அக்டோபர் மாதம் ₂₀₀₀-த்தில் கட்டடத்திற்கான நிலத்துளை வேலைகள் தொடங்கின.

தொடர்ந்து கோவில் ஸ்தபதியின் வேண்டுகோளுக்கிணங்க குடிநுழைவுத்துறையிடம் சிற்பிகளை வரவழைக்க விண்ணப்பிக்கப்பட்டது. ஜனவரி மாதம் ₂₀₀₁-ல், ₃₂ சிற்பிகள் கட்டம் கட்டமாக வரவழைக்கப் பட்டனர். தொடர்ந்து டெண்டர் மூலம் பிரித்திவி இஞ்சினியரிங் என்ற நிறுவனம் கோவிலின் மூலக் கட்டடம் கட்டும் பணிக்கு _11-03-2001-ல் ஒப்பந்தம் மூலம் அமர்த்தப்பட்டது.

பிறகு முதல் கட்டமாக ஸ்பதியும் சில பணியாட்களும் வந்தனர். அவர்கள் பெரும்பாலும் வார்ப்பு அச்சுகளில் பல வித வார்ப்புகளைச் செய்யத் தொடங்கினர். அதே வேளையில் சிவில் வேலை எனப்படும் கோவில் அடிப்படை கட்டடம் கூரையுடன் அக்டோபர் மாதம் ₂₀₀₁-ல் நிறைவு பெற்றது. கோவில் கட்டடம் _26-10-2001-ல் ஸ்தபதியிடம் ஒப்படைக்கபட்டுச் சிற்ப வேலைகள் தொடங்கப்பட்டன. இவ்வேளையில் தான் மின்சாரத்தைப் பொருத்தும் பணி "பெர்ஹிட்மாத்தன் லட்ரிக் பாக்காட்" என்னும் நிறுவனத்திடம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்டது.

ஸ்தபதியின் பணியாளர்கள் படிப்படியாக அதிகரித்தனர். இரண்டாவதாக _26-12-2001-ல் வந்து சேர்ந்த சிற்பிகளுடன் மொத்தம் பதினைந்து சிற்பிகள் பணியில் ஈடுப்பட்டனர். கட்டுமானப் பணியின் வேகம் அதிகரிக்கவே நிதியின் தேவையும் அதிகரித்தது. உண்மையில் கோவில் பணி _{RM 500,000.00} வைப்பில் உள்ள நிலையிலேயே துவங்கப்பட்டது. கோவில் நிர்வாக சபை, கோவில் தலைவரால் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட கட்டுமான வளர்ச்சி நிலை அறிக்கைகள் மூலம் பொது மக்களை நாடியது. அதற்கு பொது மக்களிடமிருந்து கிடைத்த ஆதரவு ஊக்கமூட்டுவதாக இருந்தது. மக்கள் தங்களாகவே முன்வந்து தூண்கள், சந்நிதிகள், சிலைகள் போன்றவற்றுக்கான தொகைகளை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டனர்.

_28-01-2002-ல் கொண்டாடப்பட்ட தைப்பூசத் திருநாள் நமக்குச் சிறப்பான ஒரு நாள் ஆகும். அன்றுதான் இலட்ச தீப விழா துவக்கப்பட்டது. இதன்வழி ₉₂₆ நெய் விளக்குகள் ஏற்றப்பட்டு வழிபாடு நடத்தப்பட்டது. இத்திட்டத்தின் வழி பெறப்படும் நிதியைக் கொண்டு கோவிலின் தரைப் பகுதியை கிரானைட் எனப்படும் பளிங்கு கற்களால் அமைக்கத் திட்டமிடப்பட்டது. இத்திட்டத்திற்கு அமோகமான வரவேற்பு கிடைத்துப் பெருவெற்றி கிட்டியது.

இக்கால கட்டத்தில் விளக்கக் கூட்டங்கள் அவ்வபோது நடத்தப்பட்டன. இவ்வாறு நடத்தப்பட்ட சில கூட்டங்கள் அமோக வெற்றியை நல்கின. கட்டட வேலைகளும் சிற்ப வேலைகளும் வேகமாக வளர்ந்தன. இவ்வளர்ச்சி பற்றி தெரிந்திருத்தல் அவசியமானது. இதை இலகுவாக்க தலைவர், கௌரவ செயலாளர், கௌரவ பொருளாளர், கௌரவ உதவி செயலாளர், நிர்மாணிப்பு ஆலோசகர், ஸ்தபதி, திரு. ரெ. கோவிந்தசாமி, டாக்டர் சந்திரமோகன் ஆகியோர் அடங்கிய நடப்பு பணிக்குழு ஒன்று _30-06-2002-ல் ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டது. இந்நடப்புப்பணிக்குழுவின் கூட்டங்கள் ஒவ்வொரு சனிக்கிழமைகளிலும் நடத்தப்பட்டு ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமைகளில் நடத்தப்படும் வளர்ச்சி நிலை சபைக்கு கட்டுமான நிலையை விளக்க உதவியது. தொடர்ச்சியாக கட்டுமான வளர்ச்சிநிலை கண்காணிக்கப்பட்டதால் கட்டுமானம் சிறப்பாக நடந்தேறியது.

சிறிது காலத்தில் கோவில் வளாகத்தில் சந்நிதிகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டன. கோவிலின் முதல் விழாவாக _08-09-2002-ல் திருநிலைக்கால் நாட்டு விழா கொண்டாடப்பட்டது. இவ்விழாவில் கருங்கற்களாலான சந்நிதிகளின் கதவுகளுக்கான சட்டங்கள் நாட்டப்பட்டன. இது ஒரு அரிய விழாவாக அமைந்தது. ஏறக்குறைய ஒரு மாதத்திற்குப் பிறகு நாட்டின் பொதுப் பணி அமைச்சர் மாண்புமிக்கு டத்தோ ஸ்ரீ சாமிவேலு அவர்கள் கோவிலைக் காண வந்தார். சிறு விளக்கத்திற்குப் பிறகு கோவிலின் தரைப்பகுதிக்கான பளிங்கு கல்லின் தொகையின் ஒரு பகுதியைத் தந்துதவுவதாகக் கூறினார். கோவிலின் அலுவலகமும் கல்யாண மண்டபமும் கோவில் வளாகத்தில் உருவாகின. கல்யாண மண்டபத்தின் நிர்மாணிப்புத் தொகை ரிங்கிட் மலேசியா _1.5 மில்லியானாகும். ஜூன் மாதம் ₂₀₀₄-ல் கோவிலின் திருக்குட நன்னீராட்டு விழா நடைபெறுவதற்கு முன்னமே இம்மண்டபம் தயாராகிவிட வேண்டும் என்று கருதப்பட்டது. எனவே _07-09-2003-ல் இம்மண்டபத்திற்கான நிலத்துளை வேலைகள் தொடங்கப்பட்டன. அதே நாலில் கோவிலின் கொடிமரமும் பிரதிஸ்டை செய்யப்பட்டது. இவ்விரண்டு நிகழ்ச்சிகளும் பொதுமக்கள் முன்னிலையில் மனங்கவரும் வண்ணம் நடந்தேறின. கொடிமர பிரதிஸ்டையை முதன் முதலில் கண்ட பக்தர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சி வெள்ளத்தில் மூழ்கினர்.

புதிய கோவில் வளாக வளர்ச்சி சிறப்பாக முன்னேறிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. கோவில் வளர்ச்சி நிலைக்குழு புதிய கோவில் மற்றும் மண்டபத்திற்கும் தொடர்ந்து _27-06-2004-ல் கொண்டாடப்படவிருக்கும் திருக்குடநன்னீராட்டு பெருவிழாவிற்கும் தேவைப்படும் நிதியைத் திரட்டுவதில் கவனம் செலுத்துகிறது. கும்பாபிஷேகத்திற்குள் தயாராகிவிடும் புதிய கோவில் மிக அழகாகவும் மனத்தைக் கவரும் வண்ணமும் எழுகிறது. கண்ட கனவு நனவாவதைக் காணும் போது உள்ளம் உவகையில் தண்டவமடுகிறது. இந்தக் கனவு நனவாவதில் தனி ஒரு நபராக இருந்து அயராது உழைத்த கோவில் தலைவர் திரு. ரெ. தங்கரத்தினம் அவர்களுக்கே எல்லா பெருமையும் சேரும். பித்துப் பிடித்தவர் போல் மிகச் சிறந்த கோவில் அமைவதில் அயராது உழைத்த அவரும் அவர்தம் குடும்பத்தினரும் முருகனருள் பெற்றுய்வார்களாக. தொடர்ந்து கோவில் கட்டுமானப் பணிக்குப் பல வழிகளில் உதவிய திரு. ரெ. கோவிந்தசாமி அவர்களைப் பற்றிக் கூறியாக வேண்டும். பொதுக்கணக்கராகவும். உதவியாளராகவும், பொது உறவு அதிகாரியாகவும். கொள்விலை கணக்கராகவும் பல வழிகள்லில் அவர் ஆற்றிய பணி அளப்பரியது. கடந்த ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளாக அவர் கோவில் வளாகம் உருப்பெறுவதில் பணியாற்றியுள்ளார். இறைவன் அவருக்கும் அவர்தம் குடும்பத்தினருக்கும் அருள் பாலிப்பானாக. இவ்வேளையில் கணக்குகளைச் சிறந்த முறையில் கட்டிக்காத்து வரும் கௌரவ பொருளாளர் அவர்களுக்கும் நன்றி மலர்கள் சமர்ப்பணம்.

கட்டுமானக் குழு மே மாதம் மத்திவரை ₁₈₅ கூட்டங்கள் நடத்தியுள்ளது. இதுவரை செய்து சாதனை மகிழ்ச்சியூட்டுகிறது. வருங்கால சந்ததியினருக்கு அவர்கள் பெருமிதம் கொள்ளும் வகையில் சிறந்த சொத்தை வழங்கிச் செல்லும் கட்டுமானப் பணி குழுவுக்கு நன்றி. மிக அருமையான வேலைப்பாடுகள் அமைந்த கோவில் கட்டடம் அமைவதில் உழைத்த கட்டுமான ஆலோசகர் திரு. தோமஸ் தம்புவுக்கும், தமிழ்நாட்டு மாமல்லபுரத்தைச் சேர்ந்த திறன்மிகு சிற்பி திரு. கோவிந்தசாமி வன்மீகநாதனுக்கும் நன்றி உரித்தாக்கப்படுகின்றது. அவர்கள்பால் இறைவன் கருணை மழை பொழிவானாக. நிறைவாக கோவில் எழுவதில் உயிர்நாடியாகத் திகழும் அனைத்து நன்கொடையாளர்களுக்கும் நன்றி மலர்கள் சமர்ப்பணம்.

How It All Began

Wanting to have a new abode for our Sri Balathandayuthapani in Seremban was on the minds of all devotees and those closely associated with this temple. But when and how to start the mammoth task of building a new temple was left unanswered. When the present committee of Management took over in 1998 under the able leadership of Mr. R Thangaratnam, the idea soon began to crystallize. The need to build a new temple was felt even more after the JKR certified that the roof was rotting and that the place was unsafe. This finding was rather disturbing. This was furher confounded when the sceptics remarked that a new temple would not be built in the next ten years. In the best interest of the devotees and the Hindu community at large, the Committee of Management decided that we should build a new temple.

We got the ball rolling by calling for an Extraordinary General Meeting on 30-05-1999 to get the mandate from the members of the 'Sabah' to proceed with the project. There was overwhelming support for the building of a new temple. With the mandate obtained, the Management Committee held its inaugural meeting on 20-06-1999 to set the terms of reference and also to invite those who could in one way or another contribute toward realizing our dream - the building of a new temple.

On 29-09-1999, the first step towards our long journey was taken when the place selected for the siting of the Balalayam was blessed in a simple ceremony and the construction of the Balalayam began 17-10-1999 and culminated in the Balasthaapanam on 18-11-1999.

The following month Mr Thomas Thamboe, an ex-JKR Senior Civil Engineer was appointed Consultant and Project Manager. Subsequently an agreement was entered into between Master Scultors and Architects of Mamallapuram, Tamilnadu, represented by Mr Govindaswamy Vanmeeganathan the temple architect and the 'Hindu Devasthana Sabah' in January 2000. We were indeed fortunate to have Mr. G Vanmeeganathan as the Stapathy.

In May 2000, the inevitable had to happen. The old temple, built in 1895, which was among the very few landmarks in Seremban town was demolished to make way for the new temple. Meanwhile, the necessary plans as required by MPS and other relevant authorities were submitted for approval. The building plans were approved with some conditions attached. These were soon resolved and the piling work started in October 2000.

Since piling work had started, we had to apply to the Immigration Department to bring the sculptural work in the temple. Meanwhile, we had to select a contractor for the civil works. After a tender exercise, Pertiwi Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd was awarded the tender and an agreement was signed on 11-03-2001. Soon after the capping and piling works were completed, the construction of the ground beam and back filling had to be done to raise the floor level of the temple.

Then the first batch of temple artisans arrived, together with the Stapathy, to start moulding work. As these artisans were going about their work, the civil works, including the roof slab were completed by mid - October 2001 and the temple was handed over to the Stapathy on 26-10-2001 to begin his sculptural work. It was also at this time that the Electrical wiring work was awarded to Perkhidmatan Elektrik Bakat Seremban.

Slowly, Stapathy's family of artisans began to grow. The second batch of six sculptors arrived on 26-12-2001 making a total of fifteen workers. The pace of work increased and so did the need for funds. In fact we started the project with RM 500.000.00 in our account. The committee sent out appeals in the form of progress reports prepared by our President. The response from the public was encouraging. People came forward to sponsor pillars, sannathi and statues that were to be sculptured.

Thaipusam Day - 28-01-2002 happened to be a very significant and historic day for us because we launched the "Latcha Theeba Vizha" which was the lighting of 108 ghee lamps for 926 days before the completion of the temple. This project was to collect funds for the granite flooring which we proposed to have for the new temple. We were overwhelmed by the response from the public.

It was felt necessary that periodic briefing sessions be held especially for would be donors to solicit funds for the temple. The few sessions that we had turned out to be very successful indeed. As construction and sculptural works intensified, we had to keep track and be updated on the progress. To achieve this, an Executive Working Committee (EWC) comprising of the President, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Honorary Assistant Secretary, Project Consultant, the Stapathy, Mr. R. Govindasamy and Dr. Chandra Mogan was formed on 30-06-2003. The EWC meetings were held on Saturdays in order that the Development Committee meetings held on Sundays could be briefed and an endorsement of decisions by the EWC be obtained. The constant monitoring of all the works being carried ensured the successful implementation of the project.

Not long after, all the shrines (Sannathi) were completed and the first ceremony for the new temple was the "Thirunilaikkaal Naattu Vizha", which was the placing of the granite door frames in all the shrines on 08-09-2002. It was a rare ceremony witnessed by a big crowd of devotees. Almost a month later, the Works Minister, the Honourable Dato Seri S Samy Vellu visited the temple. After a briefing session, he promised to help meet a portion of the cost for the granite flooring. All other works was progressing very well with temple office and the wedding hall to be incorporated to make it a complex, not just a temple. The wedding hall was estimated to cost RM 1.5 million and it was planned to be ready before the Mahakumbhabishegam in June/July 2004. It was unthinkable to have such a magnificent temple devoid of a wedding hall. So the first pile for the hall was driven on 07-09-2003 and Kodimara Prathishtai was also held on the same day. Both the events went on very smoothly with the devotees present during the Kodimara Prathishtai awe struck, witnessing such an event for the first time.

The whole temple complex is taking shape with the Development Committee trying very hard to raise funds for the completion of the wedding hall and to meet expenses for the Mahakumbhabishegam fixed for 27th June 2004. The new temple which is almost ready for Mahakumbhabishegam looks magnificent in all its splendour. There is a sense of pride and joy in all of us when we see our dream having become a reality. But in this endeavour to realize our dream, the whole credit must go to one man whose untiring effort, singleness of purpose and sheer determination made all this possible. It is none other than our President Mr. R. Thangaratnam. His obsession was all consuming and the magnificence of the temple complex that we see today is testimony to this one man's toil and sacrifice. May the Lord Sri Balathandayuthapani shower his blessings upon him and his family for a long, healthy and happy life. Another person who deserves special mention is Mr. R Govindasamy who became the clerk-of-works of sort, helper, errands man, public relations man, purchasing clerk all rolled into one. This man has devoted the last five years entirely to help in the building of the temple complex. May God bless him and his family too. The Honorary treasurer Mr. A. Kulasingam has done a wonderful job in maintaining our building accounts. I take this opportunity to thank him for a job well done.

The Building Committee which has up to mid-May 2004 held 185 meetings can feel very proud of the achievements thus far. I wish to thank each and every member of the Building Committee for their sacrifice and effort in giving the Hindu community something they can feel proud of because we will be leaving behind a legacy for generations to come. The splendid architecture and civil works that are mirrored in the new temple would not have been possible without our Project Consultant Mr. Ir Thomas Thamboe and our Master Sculptor Mr Govindasamy Vanmeeganathan of Mahabalipuram, Tamilnadu.
